Song Structure: Intro, Verse, Build, Drop, Break and Outro
Organize musical ideas into a full track with transitions that serve the listener or DJ.
Sections create a journey
An intro establishes rhythm or harmony. A build adds energy or expectation; a drop answers it. A break creates contrast, while an outro gives space to resolve or transition. The ideal lengths depend on style and purpose.
Use the ruler for structure
Treat bars as units of arrangement. Place section changes deliberately on a bar boundary, and align entries for drums, bass, lead and effects across tracks. Let only chosen transitional elements begin early or trail across the cut.
Practice by subtraction
Duplicate a short section in SoundCode Arrangement Lab. Remove bass for a break, return it for the drop, then use a filter or a short riser to guide the transition. Compare both sections before exporting.
